Biopics: Critically Acclaimed Hits | Upcoming & Promising

Biopic is one category of Bollywood films for which we behave like an excited child. We have numerous biopics making their way to the theatres every year but how many of them are exceptionally good? We have listed down a few of the best biopics we have witnessed and some of the most promising films to come our way very soon. Cheggit out!

1. Padmavati

After the grand success of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani, we are longing for the release of Bhansali’s much awaited biopic, Padmavati. The title role of Rani Padmini will be portrayed by Deepika Padukone with Shahid Kapoor playing the role of her husband, Rawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer Singh portraying the role of Alauddin Khilji, the ruler of the Delhi Sultanate. With witnessing spectacular performances from Ranveer and Deepika in Bajirao Mastani, we wait eagerly to watch the pair recreate magic on the big screen and leave us spellbound, yet again.

The movie releases on November 17, 2017. Mark the date!

2. Padman

Akshay-Kumar-biopic-padman-sanitary-airlift-rustomThe most versatile and supremely talented actor, Akshay Kumar will be seen in R. Balki’s PadMan, portraying the role of Arunachalam Muruganantham, the social entrepreneur who invented the first low-cost sanitary napkins in India. The movie is set to break all the taboos regarding women’s sexuality and create the need to understand the concept of menstrual hygiene. We have witnessed Akshay make justice to biopics like, Airlift & Rustom, which makes PadMan to be one of the most awaited films.

3. Daddy

Ashim Ahluwalia’s upcoming political crime drama, Daddy, is a biography of the gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli. The talented Arjun Rampal will be seen portraying the role of Arun Gawli and  the south Indian actress, Aishwarya Rajesh will be seen playing the role of his wife, Asha Gawli. Since crime-driven biopics like Shootout at Wadala, which was based on Manya Surve, portrayed by John Abraham, & film Black Friday based on Tiger Memon, portrayed by Pawan Malhotra have had a great box-office success, we doubt if Daddy will stand true to its expectations. The movie releases on September 8, 2017, brace yourselves!

4. Sanjay Dutt’s Biopic

Rajkumar Hirani’s directorial biopic is based on Sanjay Dutt, whereas the title is yet to be disclosed. The role of Dutt will be portrayed by the one and only, Ranbir Kapoor and we are already hyperventilating!! This film is much awaited not only because Raju Hirani is known to extract best from his actors but also to witness Ranbir pull-off Dutt’s character and leave us in awe. Ranbir has never failed to surprise us with his intense performances which keeps us waiting for every update of this biopic.

5. Haseena Parkar

Apoorva Lakhia’s directorial film, Haseena Parkar is an upcoming biographical crime film based on the terrorist, Dawood Ibrahim’s sister, Haseena Parkar. The film marks Shraddha Kapoor’s first female protagonist role as she will be seen essaying the character of Haseena. Shraddha Kapoor’s real brother, Siddhanth Kapoor will be seen portraying the role of Haseena’s brother, Dawood Ibrahim. With the supreme success of Milan Luthria’s, “Once Upon A Time In Mumbai” (2010) which was based on real-life-gangsters Haji Mastan & Dawood Ibrahim portrayed by Ajay Devgan & Emraan Hashmi respectively, we doubt if Siddhant would be able to outdo Emraan’s strong performance of Ibrahim. After witnessing Shraddha’s acting career degrade, we hope the film to at least prevail in theatres for two weeks.
